TheSecret Lives of Mormon Wivesstars appeared on the May 28 episode ofThe Viall Filespodcast, hosted by spouses Nick Viall and Natalie Joy. When Nick, 44, asked them to go back and talk about how they met, Jen, 25, said Zac, 28, is "better at sharing" and told him to take the lead. "There's a Mormon dating app called Mutual. It's kind of like Tinder, but it's just for Mormons," Zac explained. "And I was moving after my freshman year of college. I'd just gotten back from my LDS mission to the Dominican Republic. " Jennifer Affleck/ Instagram Jen joked, "And he was like, 'Where the Latinas at?' " Zac laughed and added, "I kind of got the Latina fever and was looking for someone spicy like Jen." Jen, whose mother is from Ecuador, mimicked dancing on the couch. Zac continued, "I was on that app, and I was the first person that showed up on Jen's app." Jen liked his profile, and he messaged her. "I actually texted her a few times and said, 'Hey, can we go on a date?' And she ignored me, but I was like, this girl's super pretty. I'm going to shoot my shot again." The problem was that Zac was about to move to Hawaii, and Jen was suspicious of his motives since he was leaving. "You're about to move to Hawaii, and you want to hang out?" she remembered thinking. "Like, why else would you wanna hang out? I was like, 'No, thanks.' " She finally agreed to meet up the night before he left. "We went and we talked and, this sounds like cheesy or corny to say, [but] it literally was the most significant night of my life," Zac said. "And I went home that night, and I told my mom, 'I just met my future wife.' And she's like, 'You're sleep deprived. You're crazy. You're moving to Hawaii. You don't know what you're talking about.' " His friends at the airport didn't believe him either. In Hawaii, he and his friends worked at a shop and focused on surfing and having fun. He explained they made "a rule" that they weren't going to date or "let girls ruin the summer." But Zac "couldn't stop thinking about Jen," and after two weeks, he invited her to come out. "We spent a bunch of time together, and then we ended up dating," he said. "And then Jen was gonna go on an LDS mission after that, and she decided to not turn in her papers. She kind of gave me an ultimatum." Jen joked she chose reality TV instead. Zac continued, "She said, 'I'm not going to go on a mission, and I think we should get married.' So I started saving up my money. I actually took a loan from my dad and bought a ring and proposed, and we got married, like, 10 months later." In season 2 ofThe Secret Lives of Mormon Wives, which premiered earlier in May, the couple shared thatthey were briefly separated toward the end of 2024, thanks in part totheir fight over a trip to Chippendalesat the end of season 1.
