"I just didn't feel like I sang that well in those songs," said Meester of her pop music. "That's why I stopped doing that style of songwriting, because I didn't feel really good when I would sing it," she added. "That was something that I figured out in my 20s." In between Meester's first run of singles andHeartstrings, she also recorded a few country songs for the 2010 filmCountry Strong, in which she starred alongsideGwyneth PaltrowandTim McGraw. Earlier this year, the mother of two's music earned a shoutout from an unlikely supporter:Flavor Flav. After she and husbandAdam Brodylost their home in the Los Angeles wildfires, the Public Enemy rapper filmed aTikTokvideo set to "Somebody to Love." She opened up to Bustle about becoming more selective in her career as of late. "It's been really, very lovely to do a couple of shows where there is that feeling of: there could be a future there," she said. "But I don't know." "People are always asking, 'What do you want to do? Where do you see yourself? Where do you want to go?' And I'm like, I don't know. I don't know if it's motherhood or this current situation or this business," she added. You kind ofcan'tbe like, 'I know what I'm doing three years from now.' I'm just, like, okay right now."
